Song Streams & Revenue

As reported by Hits Double Daily for July 14th to 20th

It’s a new Thursday and a new song revenue chart. As reported by Hits Double Daily, which tracks streaming revenue week over week, the above chart reflects the streaming period from July 14th to 20th.

Gunna earns over 100K from 24M streams of “fukumean” for the second week in a row. Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice’s “Barbie World” climbs the chart earning 50K from 10M streams. Lil Uzi Vert’s “Flooded The Face” has declined in popularity but still made $32K from 6M streams.

Travis Scott’s Pyramid Party Is Canceled—But ‘Utopia’ Is Here

Travis Scott with his hair braided wearing a chain in front of the pyramids

This is not a drill. Five years later and Travis Scott’s Utopia is finally releasing tonight. The good news is that the album will not be delayed, but the bad news is that his performance and livestream at the Pyramids of Giza are officially canceled. Astroworld was centered around a theme park, but this rollout has truly been a ride.

Yesterday, Live Nation released an official statement citing “complex production issues” as the reason resulting in “the show could not be constructed in the desert.” Seems as though reports that Egyptian officials pulled permits to prevent the show may have been true after all.

Refunds were issued to ticket holders, but Travis chimed in, saying the pyramid show and Utopia performance will happen, just not tomorrow, and they need some time to figure out the logistics. Rumor has it that they’re trying to find another location in the Middle East.

As promised, Travis unveiled more of the Utopia album covers, with the one on the left below corresponding to cover #2 on Travis’ webstore and the one on the right corresponding to cover #5. The dystopian photo unveiled as the first alternate cover is #3 on the webstore.

Commenting on one of the album covers, The Weeknd made a super tasteful joke comparing the adult entertainment site Blacked to a Utopia image. Guess he’s still in character for The Idol.

Drake will be on the album

Drake was spotted out in NYC with Travis and French Montana at the Dream Hotel after his concert at Madison Square Garden. Drake apparently “forgot” the Utopia briefcase at Starlets strip club last night in his first official briefcase sighting—exactly how Bad Bunny and The Weeknd were teased as features.

Mysterious totem poles

In the final days leading up to Utopia, totem poles were spotted on the Four Sisters Ranch in Utopia, Texas, and outside the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. Integrated speakers can be heard blasting ominous music, potentially from Utopia or the Circus Maximus movie. It wouldn’t be a Travis rollout if everything weren’t cryptic.

Context for those of you out touching grass

Last week, news broke that the Egyptian Syndicate of Musical Professionals revoked Travis’ license and permits for the Utopia performance due to security concerns and strange rituals inconsistent with their societal values. Live Nation released a statement that the show would go on, and the news was declared fake.

An unverified letter from Travis on Cactus Jack stationery appeared online, addressing the Syndicate’s concerns and defending his character from their allegations. It was never determined whether the letter was real or not, but the cancellation suggests there was trouble behind the scenes, likely with Egyptian officials.

Why this matters

If Utopia proves anything, it’s that Travis has the best album rollouts in the game for what might become the album of the year. The only other rapper who can compete with this Utopia rollout is Kanye, Travis’ old mentor. The puzzle pieces of the rollout will likely be connected when the album and movie are released tonight and Travis’ genius marketing plan is fully revealed.

First-week sales for Astroworld were 537,000 album-equivalent units, and Utopia would be groundbreaking if it beat those numbers resulting in the second #1 rap album this year and potentially the first #1 rap single. Remember that physical album sales hold more value for Billboard’s ranking system, which is why Travis always pushes album bundles.

Do you think Utopia will outsell Astroworld’s 537K first-week sales?

Bullets Found May Be Connected to Tupac’s Murder & Never Before Seen Footage From the Night He Died

Tupac sitting in a black BMW car next to Suge Knight with the window rolled down

Last week, police executed a search warrant on a Las Vegas home in connection with Tupac’s murder on Sept 7th, 1996. The raid resulted in laptops, hard drives, photos, magazine articles, book manuscripts, and several .40 caliber bullets being seized as evidence to undergo forensic testing. Coincidentally, new footage has emerged from the night Tupac was murdered. What does all of this mean? Find out below.

The evidence was collected at a residence that belongs to Paula Clemons, wife of Keefe D, who is the uncle of Tupac’s alleged killer Orlando Anderson. Both Keefe and his nephew were members of the Crips and had an ongoing rivalry with Death Row around the time of Tupac’s murder.

Keefe first confessed to Anderson being Tupac’s killer in 2009 to detectives, under the agreement it couldn’t be used to prosecute him, and recounted the shooting in detail in his 2019 book Compton Street Legend.

New evidence undergoing forensic testing

According to the Daily Mirror, a Vegas police source confirmed the bullets found will be tested to determine if they have any correlation to the bullets from Tupac’s body or the scene of the homicide. Detectives have kept forensic evidence from that night and Tupac’s body in secure storage for 25 years. This includes a full lab analysis of shells, bullets, and powder from the crime scene.

However, the gun used to kill Tupac was never found, and the source admitted, “It is a long shot that the bullets will be the ones from 1996.” The homicide detectives leading the case are keeping details about the case under wraps, with only the district attorney’s office learning of developments.

The secretiveness surrounding the case is likely due to suspicions that evidence was fumbled or destroyed in the past. In 1998, a .40 caliber Glock was found in a Compton backyard that was suspected as the murder weapon. What happened next is unclear. Some say the Glock was tested and not a match, while others say it was never transferred to Las Vegas police.

Unearthed footage shows Tupac right before he died

The renewed interest in Tupac’s murder has placed a magnifying glass on what happened the night of Sept 7th, 1996. The Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection released footage of Tupac outside a hotel, presumably the MGM Grand, with a group of women before he got into a car and was murdered.

Context for those of you out touching grass

The night of Tupac’s murder, he got into an altercation inside the MGM Grand hotel alongside Death Row founder Suge Knight and a bunch of Crip-affiliated individuals, including Orlando Anderson and Keefe D. Tupac and Death Row members allegedly jumped Anderson in retaliation for the Crips previously snatching Death Row chains.

Later that night, Tupac was in a car with Suge, and when they stopped at a red light, a white Cadillac pulled up next to them and opened fire, ultimately killing him. The theory goes that Anderson and company orchestrated the drive-by shooting to get revenge after the fight.

Why this matters

These are the most substantial developments to happen in the last decade relating to the long-unsolved case of Tupac’s murder. Out of all the numerous theories, Orlando Anderson as the killer is the most plausible, and even though he’s also deceased, the new evidence collected could provide clarity on what happened and why.

Do you think Keefe D is connected to Tupac’s murder?

Drake Needs His 10% as Bra-Throwing Fan Becomes Playboy Model

Drake making a shocked face

Drake can now add Playboy scout to his list of skills. Earlier this week, a video of Drake picking up a bra thrown at him during his concert went viral. “36G? Locate this woman immediately,” he says in the video below. A mere 24 hours after the girl’s identity was revealed to be 21-year-old Veronica Correia, she was scouted and added to Playboy’s subscription creator program, which is basically OnlyFans rebranded for bunnies.

Speaking to VIBE about the experience, Correia said, “I didn’t expect this to happen the way it did, but I’m so grateful to launch my page on Playboy and that my viral moment has turned into career growth for me and getting to join the Playboy community.”

“Playboy offers their creators a lot of freedom, I’m still able to run my own business, be a mother, and pursue my dreams,” she continued. “The earning potential alone in working with Playboy is a key part.” Who knew Drake picking up your bra could be so profitable? Hopefully, he got his 10% finder’s fee.

Does Drake deserve a commission for the Playboy deal?
